GI Cancer
The American Cancer society estimates that 271,250 new cases of digestive system cancer are expected to occur in 2007 and that 134,710 Americans will die from these diseases, which include colorectal, stomach, esophageal and other cancers. The 153,760 new cases of colorectal cancer (colon: 112,340; rectal: 41,420) that are expected to occur in 2007, make it the third most common cancer in both men and women. An estimated 52,180 Americans will die of colorectal cancer this year, accounting for almost 10% of cancer deaths.21
